Authority, Power, & Compassion
MPS: Jesus’ ministry reveals his glory through his compassion and mercy towards others.
Big App: We extend God’s glory to those in our community when we care for them spiritually and physically.
If one considers their role in the Kingdom of God, a good place to begin is with those things that seem important to Jesus and what he asks of his followers. We can look to passages like Mark 12:30-31, “30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.,, 31 The second is, Love your neighbor as yourself., There is no other command greater than these.”” Also, Matthew 28:19-20 “19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.”
These are just a sample of other important commands that teach us what is important to Jesus and, consequently, should be our priorities. This week’s text shows how Jesus has authority, power, and compassion. That compassion sees his mercy extend to the most vulnerable in society. How might we show that same concern in our community beyond donations but with our time and talents?
