First of All: Embracing Wisdom

Jan 16, 2022    Pastor Glenn

This wisdom needed to navigate life’s pandemics and problems is the work of God’s grace. God delights to give wisdom to those He rescues from the dominion of darkness, those whose naturally blinded eyes are attuned to Him. This wisdom is a direct result of our redemption in Christ.

The word ‘wisdom’ is from the Greek word sophía (σοφία) and means the knowledge of diverse matters. Greeks believed that wisdom represented an unusual ability and came to include philosophical or speculative knowledge. In the Old Testament, we see that wisdom is the ability to judge correctly, to follow the best course of action, based on the knowledge and understanding of God and his ways.

In Jeremiah we read, “This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.” (9:23-24)

Rather than trusting in our wisdom (or strength and riches), we must look to the Lord. God delights to give wisdom to those who know and trust completely in Him. Through wisdom, we have the ability and capacity to know God’s will, are strengthened with all power, and possess great endurance and patience. Imagine the difference that God’s wisdom and understanding can make in your life each day!

Wisdom is not just what we know; it’s what we do with what we know.

More than merely knowing what God calls us to, through wisdom and understanding we live differently. That’s the power of wisdom. Don’t struggle to be in control, or strive to figure out the unknowns in your life. Embrace wisdom! By embracing wisdom your heart will overflow with thankfulness to the Lord for guiding you each day and directing your every step according to His
sovereign will.
