Why Should I Believe The Gospel?
A common practice through Christian History is catechesis. It is the process of training one another in the truths of God revealed in Scripture. My favorite catechism is the Heidelberg that starts off with the following question and answer:
Q. What is your only comfort?
That I am not my own but belong to God.
We belong to God not only because he created us but he redeems us through the work and death of Jesus. The resurrection assures us of this redemption. The Christian life, regardless of how challenging and painful it can be, finds eternal hope in a future resurrection that is rooted in the resurrection of Christ. For this reason, Paul quotes Hosea “Death has been swallowed up in victory., 55 Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting?”(1 Cor. 15:54-55)
What then? Friend, trust in Christ. According to God’s grace and mercy believe that Christ died for our sins, buried, and raised on the third day in accordance with biblical prophecy. Regardless of what comes your way today, this week, or in the years to come, know that God has adopted you into his family through Christ’s work. No matter your history, background, or sin, you are forgiven on account of Christ.
