Sunday Service
As we kick off 2024, we've taken some intentional time to look at the core values expressed here at Oak Hill. Yesterday we looked at the last three from the perspective of the Great Commission.
Matthew 28:18-20 includes a timeless command for followers of Jesus to live and proclaim the good news of Jesus. To "make disciples of all nations" to baptize them into a new family and "teach them to obey everything I commanded you." To make disciples we need to BE disciples.
This includes our value of being "Bible-Centered." This means we're not elevating Scripture (or our interpretation of Scripture) higher than it should, but that Christ is revealed as we dig into Scripture to reveal truths relevant for today’s world. This is what the revelation of Scripture is for! As Christ is revealed, we will continually - by walking in the Spirit - become more Christ-like.
This is our value of Spiritual Formation. We each recognize our need for continued growth in Christ. This requires spiritual friendship, attention to spiritual disciplines, and intentional practices necessary to reflect Christ in our actions, reactions, and interactions.
And last, this moves us to being Community focused and having a heart for the lost - realizing we exist for others. This includes demonstrating a willingness to serve our local community by actively seeking opportunities to come alongside others in practical ways and also assisting their spiritual growth and personal development.
The last verse of Matthew's gospel brings it all together with the promise that we don't do this alone. Christ is with us always... even to the end of the age.
