Embracing Consequences

In Lamentations 2, the poet captures and reflects the ugliness of sin and people’s disconnect with their loving Father. Through the poet’s words we perceive God’s anger unfurled against Jerusalem and his instrument is the Babylonians. This terrifying, mighty force defiles and destroys. Through them, God casts his people down without mercy (vv.1-2). He fought against them (v.4), destroyed the temple (v.6), laid the city’s walls in ruins (v.8) and caused the loss of protection (v.9), leaving Judah’s leaders stunned and without direction, mired in their mourning (v.10). God was angry with his rebellious people! Or was he?
