Resilient in Maturity
Yesterday, we had the opportunity to hear from Bob L'Heureux as he shared on
1 Corinthians 3:1-4
Similar to the physical growth we experience, from infant to adult, Spiritual maturity is a similar process. Unlike physical growth, spiritual maturity isn't just about how long someone has been following Jesus, how much Bible they know, or even how well they can communicate scriptural truths. In 1 Corinthians 3:1-4, Paul points out that our interactions with one another is a reflection of growth in Christlikeness. For the Corinthians, the factions and divisions they were experiencing were a sign of their spiritual immaturity.
Yesterday, Bob shared an important aspect of the process of maturity - prayerful self-reflection. Our growth in Christlikeness isn't something that happens on its own. We are invited into the intentional process of formation. This includes considering questions like: Am I judging others based on my standards and values? Am I envious of someone in my life because of their position or possessions? What are my priorities in life? Do I really desire to grow and mature in Christ?
Just like physical growth can include growing pains, spiritual growth can be uncomfortable. We're not force-fed "solid food" but need to make the decision to ingest and digest the truths revealed in Christ. Even though this path is NOT the path of least resistance, we can rely on the strength and wisdom of Christ, who has promised to walk this journey right alongside us.
