Seeking Peace
Mary is venerated by over 1 billion worldwide because as the Blessed Mother of the world’s Savior, she is considered highly favored and especially blessed by God. But she is a vessel through which God’s mercy came to this world. And so are you!
Mercy characterizes God’s dealings with His people. Mary’s song of praise (see Luke 1:46-55) and her unrestrained celebration of God’s faithfulness reveal a merciful God. God’s mercy is from generation to generation. Mercy (eleos) is an act of kindness, compassion, or pity toward someone in need or distress. It is actively alleviating the suffering of others. Mary received the favor of God on behalf of all people. What God called her to was for others. His mercy to her was through her for the entire world!
By God’s mercy, relational harmony is possible. Mercy is a need we all have because all have a self-righteous heart. Only by mercy can we see others through the eyes of Christ. God’s mercy plays a pivotal role in fostering relational harmony through:
- Forgiveness. When individuals extend mercy to one another, they pave the way for reconciliation and healing in conflicts or misunderstandings.
- Understanding & Empathy. When people approach relationships with a merciful attitude, they foster empathy and compassion rather than judgment.
- Internal Healing. When people are understanding, patient, and supportive, they help create an environment where others feel safe and valued despite their imperfections or past mistakes.
- Building Trust. When God’s people show mercy, it expresses a commitment to relational well-being and creates an atmosphere where trust can be restored, fostering even stronger bonds.
