Serve One Another
Paul writes to the Galatians out of a deep concern from a pastor’s heart (see Gal. 4:21-5:15). He’s concerned because the Galatians have surrendered their freedom in Christ and have embraced again the bondage of legalism. He’s also concerned because the Galatians can’t see the difference between freedom in Christ and bondage to religion and self-righteousness. His reference to Abraham and the two covenants is intended to bring the Galatians into the light of God by exposing their incorrect thinking/disregard for truth.
Paul appeals to the Galatians to embrace their freedom in Christ and not be enslaved again by the bondage of legalism. To this end Paul encourages them to stand firm in the liberty of their freedom in Christ by guarding against the lies of the false teaching. Freedom in Christ enables us to serve others selflessly. We’re freed in Christ to express our faith by serving one another through love (Gal. 5:13). Those finding freedom in Christ are tools of God’s redeeming grace.
