All In At Work

“Our daily work can be a calling only if it is reconceived as God’s assignment
to serve others.”
Tim Keller, Every Good Endeavor
Yesterday, we continued to look at the "Household Code" as Paul expresses what a typical Roman household hierarchy looks like through the lens of living out the "new self" in Christ. (Col. 3:10) As he addresses the relationship between slaves and masters (Col. 3:22-4:1), it is most relevant today in the context of how we approach work.
Paul encourages whole-hearted participation wherever we find ourselves - in whatever we are responsible for. While we desire to do our best, when we work with "all your heart," (v.23) we working while reflecting God's heart. God desires restoration. We have been given the ministry of reconciliation and are invited to participate in caring for those God has placed in our lives, including on the job. We do this, not seeking accolades or recognition, but from knowing what we already have and will receive in Christ. (v.24)
When we invite Jesus into it with us, He will teach us how to live this "new self"' at work and live out a "we are not our own" mentality (Col. 4:1). This encourages us and puts us and our job in perspective.
We are empowered to be "all in" at work!
