All In at Home Letter to the Colossians
In a world where families, roles and relationships are rapidly disintegrating and pulling apart at the seams, Christian families have an opportunity to stand out like a beacon on a hill as they reflect the grace and glory of Christ.
Paul’s words in Colossians 3:18-21 stress the priority of honoring Christ by living according to God’s created order for the family. This priority establishes responsibility, identifies authority, and recovers God’s purpose for the family. In this passage Paul emphasizes the necessity and worth of individual persons, designed, created and brought by God into the family community for
the glory of God.
Paul’s instruction matters because entire civilizations are affected by the status of the home and family relationships.
The Christian home, with its intricate relationships is called to function in a way that defies the sinful nature’s tendencies and expectations, and points to the grace and glory of Jesus Christ! This requires putting on the new self (Col.3:10) and doing everything in the name of the Lord Jesus (Col.3:17). Healthy relational dynamics in our God-given roles are the outgrowth of a growing relationship with Jesus. In Paul’s theology, the way we live is the fruit of our salvation and journey with Jesus, the product of continual growth
in Christ.
No matter what role you play - wife, husband, child or parent, and no matter what season of life you find yourself in, I invite you to be ALL IN with Jesus, and especially to be ALL IN At Home!
