New Covenant, Age-old Wisdom

The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) is a familiar but often misunderstood text. On a hillside overlooking the Sea of Galilee, Jesus taught his disciples a different way of life. Raised under the Old Covenant, people were instructed in God’s law. The priority was keeping the Ten Words and living according to the Torah. When Jesus came, a New Covenant was established. God’s law would no longer be written on tablets of stone; it would be inscribed on the hearts and minds of a new covenant people.
